Fathers Day

Father’s Day

Well, as I sit in Mississippi at a shipper waiting to get my trailer loaded, I’m awoken to one of the most beautiful messages from my daughter as the sun rises.

It’s funny because I thought, “well, this is gonna be a day like the one before.” Then boom I get to read a Father’s Day message from my daughter that just shows me I have been a good father. Or rather, Sloan gave me validation, so there’s some evidence. Lol.

It’s been hard to accept that the remnant of good that lived in me was able to shine and influence my baby girl enough to help shape and mold such a thoughtful and caring human.

Romans 11:6 “And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.”

It’s proof that God does keep His promises. That our prayers never go unanswered.

Some of you may know this story, but here’s the short version. Back in 2010, I had been praying that my daily prayer would become a routine I never missed.

Well, Sloan’s mommy called me while I was on the road working I think I was in California. She says, “Sloan just woke up and wants to talk to you, she’s crying.” So I’m like, okay, put her on the phone.

Sloan gets on the phone and says, “Daddy, I had a bad dream,” and was crying. I thought, what can I do to help ease her emotions and comfort her? I thought, well, maybe I should pray with her. So we said a prayer and asked God to give her only good dreams. It seemed to work we said goodnight, and I thought, we’re good.

Well, the next night, guess who calls before bedtime, Sloan. She says, “Daddy, let’s do that thing.” I was thinking, what thing? Then she said, “you know, so I don’t have bad dreams.” I was like, oh, you want to pray. She said yes.

So we prayed and asked God to give her only good dreams. You know, for almost 12 years, every single day after that, we said our bedtime prayers. We never missed a single day, ever.

If you ask her, it’s a true story no exaggeration, no stretching for theatrics. We never missed a single day, and I believe our streak was 11½ years of consecutive days in a row. I finally was in the desert with a truck repair or something, and there was cell coverage, and I was able to let her know I was about to go into an area with no service.

Proverbs 22:6 “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”

God is so faithful. He answered my need for daily prayer to become something I’d do every day. Even though it was bedtime prayers, it started causing me to pray more in the mornings and we know what happens when you start your day off in prayer to the Lord.

So I just wanted to share a Father’s Day story. It’s a story very close to my heart. And you know, Sloan is almost 19, and she asked me to say our prayers a couple nights ago. I’m like, thought you’d never ask. Lol.

So proud of the young lady Sloan has become. She’s a great student, a great daughter, and a great friend. She loves the Lord with all her heart. She encourages others including me with godly stories and advice. Now she’s going to college and knows what her path is. She paid 80% of her college tuition through academic achievements.

In spite of my shortcomings and rough ways, true transformation has happened. God has honored every prayer and every promise with a resounding YES quite literally, on every prayer request. True story.

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY to all the fathers out there. And it’s always Father’s Day with our Heavenly Father. Amen.
